In the contemporary architectural landscape, some projects go beyond mere functionality, becoming true stories of synergy between creative vision, technical expertise, and mutual listening. Such is the case of the Cereal Docks Academy, a project designed by architect Aldo Peressa and realised with the technical support of Nesite, where dialogue, collaboration, and relationships became the pillars of the entire execution process.
THE PROJECT
The Cereal Docks Academy project represents a perfect example of active collaboration between designer and supplier, where every detail was conceived to embrace change. The space was created as an elevation above the Cereal Docks headquarters, also designed by architect Peressa, with the aim of providing a multifunctional area capable of accommodating up to 200 people.
“The company wanted a large space able to host many people. For this reason, we created a completely independent structure from the building below, with a frame already designed from the outset to support the loads of a future elevation” explains the architect.
The architecture develops into a linear volume, a parallelepiped interrupted by a curved wall recalling the bow of a ship. The internal space is set lower than the external level, creating the effect of a nautical cockpit: those seated inside have their eye level aligned with the external floor.
WHY THE RAISED FLOOR
“I don’t conceive of floors or walls as closed elements,” says the architect. “I always try to think of cavities, accessible technical volumes, elements that are never final. The raised floor fits perfectly into this philosophy.”
At the heart of the Cereal Docks project, the raised floor becomes a true narrative element, creating a fluid dialogue between the design vision and the technical and functional needs of the building.
For the interior, the choice fell on a system of panels with a calcium sulphate core and a brushed oak finish, laid in an elegant four-panel pattern. A solution that combines aesthetics, functionality, and technical accessibility, perfect for an ever-evolving space.
The greatest challenge, however, was presented by the exterior.
“The outdoor flooring had to conceal very invasive systems while withstanding the weather. What was extraordinary was Nesite’s ability to adapt their installation system to unforeseen needs and structural obstacles. They developed tailor-made solutions directly on site, because every point was different,” the architect emphasises.
The outdoor solution designed by Nesite involved developing a system with natural IPE wood slats, placed on a special structure designed for prohibitive heights and oversized underfloor systems, maintaining full accessibility.
