Home / News / humaneco / Serendipity: more mistakes for us

Penicillin. The microwave. Post-its.

These are just a few brilliant discoveries born from striking, almost trivial mistakes. From painful failures and missed targets. All of them are ingenious discoveries that came from disappointments that seemed unsolvable.

Yet, after every storm the sun returns — though, come to think of it, it never stopped shining behind the clouds. It simply hid for a while. Like Genius, which remains a guiding light for the Wanderer, but in the heat of battle dismounts and naps in the shade of an oak tree.

It waits for the Wanderer to finish wandering.

Defeat, distraction, and stumbling force us to look up: we ask for surrender, a slap that puts us back on track, or a hand to help us up. Because the human spirit is one of perseverance in discovery, even when weakened by unfulfilled expectations. A discovery to be shared.

Once back in the saddle, a new horizon appears beyond the hill: behind the curve, the path ahead is still unknown. On the shore awaits an entire sea to set sail.

It’s called Serendipity, and it’s about the art — involuntary and deeply human — of finding something good while searching for something else. And from here, from serendipity, comes the name Nesite: from a stubborn and passionate wandering, the profound sense of what we do and the way we choose to do it.

In the beginning, there was Hiross, a company from the Veneto region specialized in underfloor air-conditioning systems. In the early Nineties, like many of the “crazy” ideas of that time, it expanded so much that it became a benchmark in the sector both in Italy and abroad.

A heroic wandering, the kind with a heavy velvet cloak, a silver shield, and a thoroughbred galloping proudly towards the next castle to conquer.

Hiross, the Hero, needed new allies who would believe in its mission. Mino Catalano, a stubborn and visionary Sicilian engineer, turned out to be the Genius the company needed: he was one of its growth drivers and the father of a new soul, Nesite — a raised floor panel with a very strong, innovative, and high-performance structure.

The name is challenging, reflecting the boldness of the project and its inventor: it tells of the tenacity to push beyond limits, resist weaknesses, and go beyond the known.

Mino feels he is on the right path.

Yet his newborn soul is in a hurry to shine. Like a shooting star, it burns bright at first but then, losing stability and strength, it falls under the pressure of rapid industrialization and overproduction.

It is a wandering soul.

Mino sinks his stubbornness into formulas, he doesn’t give up, he searches for a solution to the crack that is widening in his soul: he doubts his steps.

After various unsuccessful attempts, Hiross decides to withdraw the panel from production: once in front of the castle, the thoroughbred’s hind legs give way and it waits for the Wanderer to finish wandering. Surrender is declared: Hiross decides to sell the flooring division — by then called Hiross Nesite — to the Transpack Group. It was 1996.

And yet, the soul endures — broken but still there: in the documents, in people’s memories, certainly in Mino’s, in the project sheets.

That name survives, Nesite, as a reminder that even when a soul is torn apart, its identity renews itself. And it still has something to say.

A promise not kept, a series of falls and surrenders have unknowingly prepared a new beginning: Nesite becomes an independent and equally stubborn company for other Heroes, Geniuses, Horses and Dames. For those who believe, for those who see themselves reflected in it.
